About the event

This is a free and public event hosted by the Twinsburg Historical Society.  Local author,Marion Starling Boyer will present the untold story of Ernest Shackleton’s Support Team for the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. While you may know about Ernest Shackleton’s 1915 attempt to cross Antarctica resulting in the sinking of his ship, The Endurance you’ve probably never heard the equally gripping other half of that adventure. Boyer presents the incredible and virtually unknown story of the crew of The Aurora, and the Ross Sea Men, who were on the opposite side of the Antarctica more than two years, battling sea ice, scurvy, frostbite, and starvation to lay the Shackleton’s critical supply depots. Boyer will share their epic story presenting images and reading passages from her award winning book, ICE HOURS in the voices of these forgotten men.  Copies of her book will be available.
