About the event
Join Marion Boyer and Barbara Sabol to discuss books by three contemporary poets. We will begin with Pattiann Roger’s Quickening Fields, winner of the John Burroughs Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Nature Poetry, and move to Indigo, by Ellen Bass. Of her poetry, The New York Times says Bass’s work—about marriage and parenting, illness and recovery, small daily pleasures—cultivates an exuberance that’s born of, and balanced by, close watchfulness. In our final session we will discuss Wild Iris by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Louise Gluck. Wild Iris is a stunning collection of introspective poems written in lyrical language and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. No matter how familiar you are with poetry we invite you to an open and welcoming conversation. Each session we will also offer generative writing prompts based on our reading.
